A Contemporary Dance and Video Artwork, Projection Mapping Collaboration. Choreographed and preformed by Yahna Fookes and Jessica Wong, with Visual Projection by Thomas Russell. Work In progress performance took place at Screen Space, 30 Guildford Lane, Melbourne. On the 18th and 19th October, 2012.
Informed by an array of formative sci-fi work including 1973 French animation Fantastic Planet and Orsen Wellesʼ radio narration of War of the Worlds, the work seeks to investigate the idea of an uncertain future and a venture into the unknown.
Similar to Welles' broadcast, which incidentally fooled listeners to believe that our planet was being invaded, Double Vision experiences total panic and hysteria over the volatile nature of mankind. Together the dancers enter a world with endless possibilities, creating a new aesthetic that challenges human formality.
'Our work discusses mankind's relationship with the future. We are looking at themes of modern mans disconnection to the cycles of earth. The panic when our sense of reality is challenged by change. Our potential for a desolated landscape. And the discovery of a planet whose people did not survive a technological adolescence.' ~Thomas Russell
